**The Independent Learning Center (ILC) is a directed study center open to all Moultonborough Academy students grades 9 through 12. The ILC staff members actively assist students who are academically at-risk for failure, but are also available for students with a variety of individual educational needs. Students may be scheduled to the ILC to take a course through an online source such as the Virtual Learning Academy. Seniors who choose to participate in an apprenticeship experience are monitored by the ILC Coordinator. Students may choose to do an extended learning opportunity. An extended learning opportunity is a credit bearing learning experience that takes place outside of the traditional classroom. They provide options to explore fields of study and career paths that a student is interested in. The students will work with the ILC Coordinator to design and develop an extended learning plan. **

Apprentice Program
The apprentice program is designed to partner Moultonborough Academy Seniors with local businesses in order to teach students transferable workplace skills. The Independent Learning Center Coordinator will meet with students and employers regularly to assess the placement and to document the student's skill development. A minimum of five hours per week must be worked at an approved job placement in addition to regular assignments in order to receive credit. Students may get their current job approved as a work-based learning site, or they can work with the coordinator to find a possible placement. Past work-based learning sites include, but are not limited to; private home construction, child care center, veterinarian, food service, surveying, dental office, property maintenance, and masonry.

EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES (ELOs)
ELOs are hands-on, credit-bearing experiences (for elective or core credit) outside of the traditional classroom with an emphasis on student personal interests.
ELOs are designed around 4 major components: Research, Reflection, Product, and Presentation.
